Stephen Becker of Le Concorde

Stephen Becker of Le Concorde has been staying at hotels in Long Beach, CA to mix his new album with some famous musician guy who loves his dog. He's very excited about it. While he was here he experienced his first earthquake. Before that, we did a photo shoot.

Bowen Ranch Hot Springs

I am really liking the camping scene in California. This weekend my friend, Alicia, and I traveled out to the Hysperia Mountains northeast of Los Angeles for Darya's birthday celebration. After setting up our tent next to some rattlesnake imprints in the sand, the group and I took a 45 min moonlit hike into the mountains and crossed a chilly waist deep river, all to soak in natural lithium hot springs.

Salton Sea

Davin and I headed out to Salton Sea to explore for the day after having a fabulous time at Michael and Lesley's wedding in Palm Springs. Russell and Michelle met us out there. First we goofed around on the apocalyptic shoreline of Bombay Beach and looked at the salty dead fish everywhere and massive amount of beautiful birds flying around. Then Russell and Michelle left and Davin and I had lunch at the local bar and hung out with the town folk. Mayor Wacko was present. We played some tunes on the jukebox and ate some sandwiches. Then a nice lady led us down in her golf cart to the famous shoreline where peoples home had been underwater 10 years earlier. She hadn't been down there in 15 years and it brought tears to her eyes! While I was there we met a nice photographer, Peter Telone, that was visiting for his umpteenth time and has a self published book of images of the abodes that were underwater. I brought salty dead fish home in a plastic grocery bag to do some still lifes of. They didn't smell. If you have time check out the history of Salton Sea. It's pretty interesting.

John Boutte and Paul Sanchez at The Joint, Los Angeles
I was first introduced to the sounds of New Orleans jazz musicians, John Boutte and Paul Sanchez, through my friend, Tony Fitzpatrick, a pivotal contemporary Chicago artist. He is in love with them. A mutual friend, Colman DeKay, invited to me to the show he helped put together in Los Angeles at The Joint on Friday. Colman, also a huge fan, is responsible for co-writing many of the duo's most brilliant songs (Boutte declared, I kid you not, a"Colman DeKay" section of the evening that night) and Colman also houses them when they're in town. That evening the duo also played with Gary Stockdale, Hollywood film composer. What a great night! Here are some "no flash" images I took for them:http://www.hayleymurphyphotography.com/BouTTeAnDSaNCHezWeBSIte2/index.htm
